Sharing beauty, chords and youth -- the cultural and artistic exchanges between Chinese and Indian youth have been successfully carried out

Jul 24, 2024

On July 23, Yunnan Arts University (YNAU) welcomed a delegation of 12 Indian youth representatives. A vibrant and diverse artistic exchange event was held at the university's internship base, "Mili Youle." As guests of the 5th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum, the delegation was composed of renowned Indian dancers, and singers, as well as university professors and young faculty representatives. This visit aimed to enhance cultural and artistic exchanges between Chinese and Indian youth.

To fully showcase YNAU's unique educational features, highlight the special role of "art" as a bridge, and promote cultural understanding and communication between the Chinese and Indian representatives, the exchange event was divided into three segments: a cultural and creative product exhibition, a calligraphy and painting workshop, and a music and dance performance. These segments vividly presented China's outstanding traditional culture and the vibrant local arts of Yunnan to the visiting performing artists, professors, and teachers. At the same time, YNAU's faculty and students had the opportunity to observe traditional dances performed by renowned Indian dancers up close. They exchanged techniques, got to know each other through interactions, and learned from one another through these exchanges.

The Bangla section of CNR's global channel provided live text and video coverage of the day's activities. Mr. Saswat Ranjan Joshi, an Indian classical dancer, posted a short video on his social media platform featuring an impromptu fusion performance of Chinese folk music, Dai ethnic dance, and Indian dance, which quickly garnered nearly 30,000 views.

On July 24, the 5th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum officially opened in Kunming. Mr. Jiang Feng, Vice President of YNAU, attended the event on behalf of the university's Party and government administration. During this event, Vice President Jiang Feng extended a warm welcome to the Indian youth delegation. He also expressed his expectations for future exchanges and cooperation, which received unanimous approval from all members of the delegation. Additionally, he communicated with Mr. He Tengyuan from the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata, India, discussing how to leverage the strengths of both sides to jointly promote bilateral cultural and artistic exchanges between China and India, and to foster interactions among the youth of both countries. They expressed hope to make positive efforts towards achieving mutual understanding between the people of the two nations.

As two ancient civilizations with long histories and rich cultures, China and India have a deep-rooted tradition of artistic exchange. YNAU will continue to actively promote Sino-Indian artistic collaboration, leveraging the high-level dialogue platform of the China-South Asia Cooperation Forum to expand into emerging artistic fields. YNAU aims to build a platform for intercultural dialogue, making artistic exchange a bridge that connects the hearts of the two nations' people, fostering mutual understanding and the development of lasting friendships.
