2020 National First-class Specialty of Drama, Film and Television Literature Construction and Development Forum for Colleges and Universities Unveiled in Our University

On November 25-26, 2020, under the guidance of the Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education, the "2020 National First-class Specialty of Drama, Film and Television Literature Construction and Development Forum for Colleges and Universities" organized by the Yunnan Arts University and undertaken by our School of Drama was successfully held in Chenggong Campus of our university. This event was presented by 34 directors, experts and scholars in drama, film and television literature majors from 18 universities in China, also including Zhou Xing, Director of Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education, Secretary-general Zhang Yan and Members Peng Wanrong, Lyu Shuangyan and Yang Jun.


On the morning of November 26, 2020, the opening ceremony was held in the Library Lecture Hall, in which Wu Weimin, Deputy Director of Commission of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of CPPCC in Yunnan, and former President of Yunnan Arts University, Guo Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the University, Ouyang Junhu, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy President, Zhang Yong, Member of the Party Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, leaders of related functional departments, Party leaders and executive heads of the School of Drama, and representatives of teachers and students participated. The opening ceremony was presided over by Yang Jun, Vice Dean of Administration of the School of Drama.

At the opening ceremony, our headmaster Guo Hao extended warm welcome and sincere greetings to the present experts and scholars from all over the country. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the leaders of the Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education for their guidance to the event. Afterwards, he shared the schooling traditions and development ideas of Yunnan Arts University, including the five national first-class specialty construction sites, six national-level first-class programs, three provincial-level first-class specialty construction sites and ten provincial first-class programs approved in recent years, as well as the guidance, support and guarantee of discipline and specialty construction in the "Five Ten Millions" project. Mr. Guo believed that as the cradle and stage for cultural and artistic talented personnel, colleges and universities specializing in art are the main force and fresh force to promote the prosperity and development of culture, which is essential to the process of building a strong country in culture, education and talent. After 30-year continuous construction of the drama, film and television literature as the key major of Yunnan Province and the core major of the School of Drama, we have built a solid and steady teaching tradition. It is expected to make more efforts to explore the specialty according to the requirements on the construction of the national-level bachelor’s degree program, so as to play an important role in terms of the reform and innovation, the faculty, the teaching resources, the quality assurance system of the specialty.

Zhou Xing, Director of Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education, and Director of Asian and Chinese Film Research Center of Beijing Normal University delivered his speech to express his affirmation and congratulations to our university for holding this event. He believed that this event was of pioneering significance as it served as a special discussion focusing on the construction of a specialty into the national-level first-class bachelor’s degree program by gathering the most top-notch talented personnel in drama, film and television literature across the country. He said that this specialty is the top one to embody the endogenous driving force and soft power in the whole drama and film and television discipline, which significantly takes the lead in the expression of human feelings, historical thinking and the exploration of the unknown spiritual world. He hoped that amidst the construction of new liberal arts, the specialty will "keep upright and innovate", reach higher heights, and drive the development of other specialties and even other disciplines.


Following the opening ceremony, the first sub-session was presided over by Zhang Yan, Secretary-General of Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education, and Executive Director of Asian and Chinese Film Research Center of Beijing Normal University. At the sub-session, Peng Tao, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature of the Central Drama Academy in Peking, Li Shengli, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature of Communication University of China, Zhao Chunning from the Department of Dramatic Literature of Xiamen University, Qie Jianye, Head of the Department of Dramatic Literature of Hebei University, Li Shitao from the Dramatic Literature Department of Shanghai Theater Academy, and Yan Chengying, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature of Yunnan Arts University exchanged their ideas. These representatives shared their own experience and innovative practices on the cultivation of talent majoring in the drama, film and television literature, and offered their own thoughts in the face of the requirements on the construction of national-level first-class specialty and the new demands of social development on talent cultivation.



Professor Wu Weimin made a summary and comment on the speeches of these experts and scholars. According to his precise summary of the characteristics of each university, he believed that each university had its own brilliant skills and highlights in the construction of the specialty of drama, film and television literature and talent training. Professor Wu held that these characteristics and achievements were in line with the development direction of "new liberal arts" advocated by the Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education, and the development idea of "keeping upright and innovating". He also made responses to the questions and confusion raised by the six speakers in the exchange.


On the afternoon, the second sub-session was held at the Teaching Practice Base of the School of Drama of Yunnan Arts University in The Courtyard Theatre of Lianhuachi, Wuhua District, Kunming, with the theme of "Cultivation of the Core Creative Ability of Scriptwriters". The event was chaired by Lyu Shuangyan from the Shandong University of Arts, and Member of Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education. Many representatives from other universities gave speeches to share their teaching results, including Huang Dan, Department Head of Beijing Film Academy, Chen Jianping from National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Gao Ziwen, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Nanjing University, Wang Wenbin, Associate Dean of the School of Art, Wuhan University, Zhao Lili, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Nanjing University of the Arts, Yu Liping, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Shandong College of Arts, Zheng Yingming, Director of the Dramatic Literature Teaching and Research Section, Jilin College of the Arts, Shen Houqing, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Guangxi Arts University, Wu Yuxia, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Xinjiang Arts University, Liu Jinmei, Department of Dramatic Literature, Inner Mongolia University of Arts, Zhu Xiaojun, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Communication University of Zhejiang, Zhong Pingdan, Director of the Department of Dramatic Literature, Sichuan Normal University.

These speeches were commented by Peng Wanrong from Wuhan University, Member of Teaching Guiding Committee for Drama, Film and Television in Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education. He held that principals of each school shared their experience in running schools in a lively way and raised their own difficulties, which aroused strong responses. Such discussions and exchanges were of great significance. He added that the School of Drama of Yunnan Arts University provided an remarkable exchange opportunity and platform for gathering drama majors nationwide, which would significantly promote the construction and development of this discipline and specialty, and put forward constructive suggestions for the future event.

On the evening of 26th, the attending experts and scholars watched the courtyard drama Lu Ming created by teachers and students from the Department of Dramatic Literature of the School of Drama. Professor Wu introduced to the guests the development of Kunming Courtyard Drama and the achievements that the teachers of Department of Dramatic Literature led the students to perform nearly 400 performances in 7 years. Yang Yang, the screenwriter, director, and a protagonist of Lu Ming, and Associate Professor of the Department of Dramatic Literature of the School of Drama, gave an introduction regarding the teachers setting up a studio, to provide students with creative demonstration and practice opportunities, and train their creative and executive abilities. In addition, Professor Yang elaborated on the development of professional creation and cultural tourism projects, their combination with the market, and commercialization of teaching achievements through the connection of practice bases. Everyone on site highly praised and affirmed the ideas and practices of the specialty.


This event gathered the elites of the specialty of drama, film and television literature in colleges and universities nationwide, creating strong academic atmosphere, making it an innovative forum to promote the development of disciplines and strengthen the research and exchange of construction of the specialty. Moreover, the participation of colleges and universities across the country and the experience sharing across regions brought new ideas and insights to the construction of drama, film and television literature specialty and talent training mode of our university.
