China-Laos Railway Field Trip Exhibition Opens in Laos

Jan 2, 2025

On December 27, 2024, the "Laos as Painted by Yunnan Painters—'People-to-People Connectivity: Yunnan Tour' China-Laos Railway Field Trip Exhibition" opened at the China Cultural Center in Laos. Vansy Soukchaleurn, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Arts of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos, Khampheng·Latmany, Deputy Director of the General Office of the Laos-China Cooperation Commission Committee, Wei Yanxiong, First Secretary of the Political Section of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, and Khamsouk Keovongxay, President of the Lao National Institute of Fine Arts, attended the opening ceremony. Relevant leaders from the Kunming Association of Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation, representatives of Yunnan painters, teachers and students from the Lao National Institute of Fine Arts, representatives of Lao artists, as well as representatives from Yunnan Chinese-funded institutions in Laos and the Yunnan Chamber of Commerce attended the opening ceremony.

The exhibition is hosted by the China Cultural Center in Laos and Kunming Association of Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation and co-organized by Yunnan Arts University (YNAU) and the Lao National Institute of Fine Arts.

To ensure the quality of the exhibited works, YNAU selected three teachers from the Fine Arts School in October 2024—Chen Yiyuan, Bian Xiaoqiang, and Zhou Liming—to travel southward from the Mohan Port to 10 stations in Laos, including Louang Namtha, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang, and Vientiane. Using vivid brushstrokes, they captured the natural landscapes and cultural characteristics along the China-Laos Railway, as well as the positive transformations the railway has brought to the lives of people along its route.

After this exhibition, all works created by the teachers of YNAU will be donated to the Laos-China Railway Company Limited and displayed publicly to passengers from various countries at China-Laos Railway stations, such as Vientiane Station in Laos.

This field trip exhibition is an active exploration of YNAU to leverage its professional advantages while actively integrating into and supporting national strategies. It aligns with Yunnan's positioning as a hub for engagement with South Asia and Southeast Asia and the "3815" strategic development goal.

Moving forward, YNAU will further enhance international education exchanges and cooperation, expand and deepen cultural and artistic exchanges with neighboring countries, and strive to establish an "art +" international art performance brand. The university will continue to enhance its social service capabilities and increase its global influence.
