Drama School

The Drama School, established in 1960, now has 55 full-time employees (including 41 full-time teachers), among which there are 8 with senior professional title and 10 with deputy senior professional title. The school has enrolled 1,433 students in total, consisting of1365 undergraduates and 68 graduate students.

The school has five departments: Acting, Directing, Opera, Stage Arts, and Broadcasting. There are six undergraduate majors: Television Drama Performance (including the performance of drama and film and the models and costumes), drama and film direction, drama and film literature, broadcasting and hosting art, stage art design, and film(including stage design, costume, and make-up programs), drama (including the drama education and the drama history and criticism programs). In 2003, the school is allowed to grant a master's degree in "Drama & Opera" (now renamed "Drama and Film Studies"). Since 2004, the school has officially started a nation-wide master's degree program. In 2009 the "Drama & Opera" is recognized as a doctoral program in Yunnan, and all of its programs have been enrolling master's degree candidates in arts since 2012.

The school has implemented 29 Quality Projects at all levels including one state-level project and 16 provincial-level projects. In recent years, a wide range of academic activities at all levels have been organized or co-sponsored by the school. One of them is the "Drama Carnival-First Exhibition Season of Innovative Dramas Co-created by Small Theaters of Yunnan" in March-May2016, which is jointly sponsored by the School and the Yunnan Provincial Theater. Alongside teaching, research, and creation of drama, the school has enhanced its collaboration with local governments and enterprises in Yunnan to promote the development of the film and culture industries and inheritance and protection of minority dramas with its own expertise. In order to live up to its commitment to serving the community, the School has set up a teaching and practice base with culture departments, professional troupes, enterprises and institutions to promote the local culture development of the province and has seen remarkable achievements.
