The 2019 Applied Drama Forum & the 3rd Drama and Education Application Conference held at YAU

On October 17, 2019, the 2019 Applied Drama Forum & the 3rd Drama and Education Application Conference opened in the lecture hall of the university library. The event is sponsored by the Chinese Theatre Literature Association, Yunnan Arts University (YAU) and Yunnan Dramatists Association and undertaken by the Applied Drama Committee of the Chinese Theatre Literature Association and the Drama School of YAU.

The attendees include domestic and foreign experts from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama of the University of London, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, King's College of the University of Aberdeen, Philippine Educational Theatre Association, Centre for Applied Theatre, Taiwan, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Central Academy of Drama, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Shanghai Normal University, Fanhai Kindergarten and Shijia Primary School, as well as scholars in the field of drama and education application and trainees of training workshops from all over the country. Li Dongcai, President of the Chinese Theatre Literature Association, Wu Weimin, Chairman of Yunnan Dramatists Association and former President of YAU, Huang Yanling, Secretary of the Party Committee of YAU and Guo Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of YAU attended the opening ceremony.

Themed on "educational practice, theoretical innovation and value integration of drama", this conference allows domestic and foreign experts, scholars and practitioners to carry out academic and practical exchanges through academic forums, applied drama workshops and original drama performance. The attendees can learn from the experience and methods of the UK, Canada and South Asia where applied drama education is better developed and fully discuss the difficulties and approaches in promoting the applied drama in China with colleges and universities and peers.



On behalf of YAU, Guo Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of YAU delivers a speech and welcomes all the guests. He introduces the history of YAU and the characteristics and advantages of its disciplines, highlighting the university's determination to become a double first-class university and the measures taken in recent years. He also stresses the significance of this event in the construction of disciplines and specialties.

Li Dongcai, President of the Chinese Theatre Literature Association highly praises and sincerely thanks YAU for its hard work in this event.

Wu Weimin, Chairman of Yunnan Dramatists Association and former President of YAU, as a leader of Yunnan Provincial Key Disciplines, reviews the establishment and development of the Drama Education Major in the Drama School of YAU.

Three wonderful academic forums are held after the opening ceremony. Prof. Tony Goode from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland talks about how to help the elderly find a healthy lifestyle through recalling dramas in the face of the increasingly aging global population.

Dr. William D. Barlow from King's College of the University of Aberdeen focuses on how to help students entering secondary schools change roles as soon as possible by using conventional techniques in drama. Dr. Selina Busby from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama of the University of London takes her three-decade applied drama practices as an example to highlight the life-changing power of drama. Marichu Belarmino-Cariño, an expert recommended by Philippine Educational Theatre Association, introduces the association's achievements over the five decades and recent projects of concern.

        In addition, Shu-Ya Lai from Centre for Applied Theatre, Taiwan, Prof. Estella Wong from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Prof. Zhao Zhiyong from the Central Academy of Drama, Prof. Shen Liang, Prof. Yu Jiancun, A.P. Peng Yongwen and A.P. Xu Jun from Shanghai Theatre Academy, Lin Hang from the Applied Drama Committee of the Chinese Theatre Literature Association, Dr. Xu Jun from Shanghai Normal University, Principle Zhao Hong of Fanhai Kindergarten, Bao Hong and Shi Yupei from Shijia Primary School, Chairman Wu Weimin of Yunnan Dramatists Association and former President of YAU and Prof. Yang Jun and Prof. Yang Junxia of YAU deliver the keynote speeches.



On the evening of October 17, Drama Education teachers and students from the Drama School of YAU delivered a special performance of their original drama "Goodbye, 2014", which is highly praised by the experts. Some experts give a standing ovation at the end of the performance, admiring the well-written script, sincere performance and innovative form.

From October 18 to 20, seven drama and education application workshops will be held simultaneously. Domestic and foreign experts will thoroughly introduce practical skills of the applied drama.
