2019 Conference on Chinese Anthropology of Arts Concludes

       On the morning of October 26, the 2019 Conference on Chinese Anthropology of Arts, sponsored by China Society for Anthropology of Arts and Yunnan Arts University, undertaken by Yunnan Arts University, co-sponsored by National Arts Bimonthly, closed in the conference hall of our universitys library. The conference provided a platform for the experts and scholars engaged in the anthropology of arts, and presented a wonderful academic feast for our teachers, students and all walks of life, boosting the development of the anthropology of arts.

Ms. Wei Meixian, Deputy Director of National Arts Academy of Yunnan Arts University

        The closing ceremony was presided over by Wei Meixian, deputy director of our National Arts Academy. Li Xianglin, professor from Sichuan University, Niu Le, professor from Northwest Minzu University, and Dong Bo, professor from Inner Mongolia Normal University, summarized the group discussions of this conference successively.

When summarizing the group discussion themed by "theoretical study on anthropology of arts and cultural heritages", Prof. Li pointed out that the development of anthropology should be based on local demand and actual situation of our country. When conducting field investigation, anthropologists should put people first and take measures according to local conditions, so as to drive China's anthropology of arts to go global.

Prof. Niu summed up the group discussion themed by "plastic arts studies". He made a brief comment on China's anthropology of arts from different perspectives, praising the experts and scholars in the group for their excellent discussions and fruitful report.

 

Prof. Dong Bo, Inner Mongolia Normal University

The group discussion on "national and performing arts studies" was summarized by Prof. Dong Bo from Inner Mongolia Normal University. She mentioned that the experts and scholars attending the conference, experienced in field investigation, pay attention to the development of arts in various ethnic groups and regions. At the end of her summary, she hoped they could continue to conduct field investigations and make contributions to the development of the anthropology of arts.

 

Mr. Meng Fanxing, Secretary-general of China Society for Anthropology of Arts

 

After the academic summaries, Meng Fanxing, the newly-appointed secretary-general of China Society for Anthropology of Arts, made a work report to the conference. To start his report, he extended his gratitude to the society for its appointment. After that, he announced the important decisions made by the enlarged meeting of standing directors held on 24th, including changing personnel, training youth talent, carrying out annual conference work reform, strengthening cooperation with important publications, furthering cooperation with colleges and universities, improving the publicity and adopting the icon designed by YAU for the society, and announced that next year's conference will be held in Shangri-La.

Guo Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of YAU, delivered a closing speech. On behalf of the university, he congratulated the conference on its success and thanked the secretariat staff, teachers and students for their hard work to ensure the success. He pointed out that with the theme of "art anthropology and cultural revival", the conference held heated and in-depth discussions from the perspectives of intangible cultural heritage protection, traditional craft revitalization and rural rejuvenation, aimed to integrate into the development of times standing at the forefront of the new era, represented a concrete practice of the concept of "seeking knowledge from the facts and studying for application" of the China Society for Anthropology of Arts, and opened a new chapter for China's anthropology of arts. The conference promoted the communication and exchanges between art colleges and comprehensive universities, he noted, adding that he hoped the attendees could strengthen communication and cooperation with YAU through various ways and channels, and work together to carry forward and develop the excellent Chinese culture.

 

Ms. Fang Lili, President of China Society for Anthropology of Arts

 

At the end of the closing ceremony, Ms. Fang Lili, President of China Society for Anthropology of Arts, made a summary. In her summary, she expressed her love for Yunnan and her gratitude to our university. She said that the revival of local cultures rely on the revival of local arts through modern technologies, so anthropologists, artists and art researchers should cooperate with each other and conduct individual cognition studies. In addition, she affirmed the content of the conference and the enthusiasm of the attendees. When she mentioned next year's conference in Shangri-La, the attendees burst into prolonged applause.

  

 

The conference, with the theme of "art anthropology and cultural revival", was inaugurated in the conference hall of our universitys library on the morning of October 24, attracting over 200 experts and scholars engaged in the anthropology of arts and related disciplines from home and abroad.

        The three-day conference was held at three venues with three topic, namely, "theoretical study on anthropology of arts and cultural heritages", "plastic arts studies" and "folk customs and performing arts studies", and started from the perspectives of intangible cultural heritage protection, traditional craft revitalization and rural rejuvenation.

        Standing at the forefront of the times and the anthropology of arts, the conference brought together experts from home and abroad in the fields of art and anthropology, making it a high-level event for cultural and art studies, a platform for the communication of thoughts, wisdom and feelings, and a stage boosting the trust and friendship among attendees. Through this conference, our motivations of academic research have been activated, the studies on regional national cultures and arts have been furthered, and our academic construction and school-running characteristics have been demonstrated, which will drive us to make greater contributions to the development of China's higher art education and cultural and artistic undertakings.
