"Colourful Mutualism" — Global Art and Design Competition Based on COP15 Works Collection

Introduction to the Competition

The 15thConference of the Parties (COP15) of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity will be held in Kunming of Yunnan Province, China in 2021. To effectively promote the theme of COP15 — Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth, the Publicity Department of the Yunnan Provincial Preparatory Office for COP 15 has guidedYunnan Arts University,National Design Dashi Award, andChina Film Art Direction Academyto jointly host "Colourful Commensalism" — Global Art and Design Competition Based on COP15.

By leveraging art as a common language and a communication media, the Competition geared toward the globe will display the art and design works of global artists, thus to break the boundaries of physical space and exert a positive influence on popularizing the knowledge of biology, ecology, environment, and environmental protection and guiding people's positive behavior. In the meantime, the Competition strives to spread the concepts of "ecological diversity" and "cultural diversity" in a vivid and creative manner, thus further promoting people-to-people bonds and cultural exchanges, arousing the resonance and reflection of different groups on the relationship between "humanity and ecology", and jointly depicting a beautiful homeland of "Colourful Commensalism" with art language.

Theme: Biological Diversity and Ecological Civilization

 

Scope of Collecting

1.Fine arts:Chinese painting, oil painting, print, mural painting, watercolor, comics, illustration, mixed media, conceptual art, photography, sculpture and other expressive artworks.

Requirements for art entries:Submitted electronic documents are only in JPEG format and CMYK mode, with a resolution of not less than 300 dpi. The image pixel must not be less than 5 Mb and not more than 30 Mb. For video display, the format shall be AVI, MOV, or MPEG, and the resolution shall not be less than 720×576 pixels or 720×480 pixels. Low compression or lossless compression shall be adopted as far as possible.

2.Design:Product design, visual communication design, environmental design, fashion and costume design, animation design, digital media art design, architectural design and other design works.

Requirements for design entries:The submitted electronic copy shall only be in JPEG format, with an output size of 120×90 cm and a precision of 300 dpi. The text description shall not exceed 200 Chinese characters. For video display, it must be an H.264 encoded video file, with a frame size of not less than 1280 × 720 pixels. A frame size of 1920 × 1080 pixels is recommended.

Preliminary selection: August 16–31

Re-selection: September 1–15

Result Announcement: September 22–27

Chen Jinsong (China)

Vice president, professor, master's supervisor at Yunnan Arts University; member of the Teaching Guiding Committee for Design Majors in Universities and Higher Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of Education; director of the Teaching Guiding Committee for Design Majors in Universities and Higher Vocational Colleges of Yunnan Province; vice chairman of Yunnan Artists Association.

Damien Cardio (France)

Famous French painter; winner of the first prize of SOVEREIGN European Art Prize; professor of School Fine Arts De Nantes Saint-Nazaire.

Known as Europe's most creative visual poet and one of the World's Top Three Contemporary Graphic Designers.

Guo Hao (China)

Professor and master's supervisor at Yunnan Arts University; member of the Teaching Guiding Committee for Fine Arts in Universities and Higher Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of Education; member of the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Evaluation Committee; expert on examination and evaluation of colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, China; deputy director of the Comics Art Committee of the China Artists Association; member of the Teaching Guiding Committee for Fine Arts in Universities and Higher Vocational Colleges in Yunnan.

Lin Jiayang (China)

Professor, doctoral supervisor, and director of Design Art Research Center at Tongji University; founder of National Design Dashi Award; leading master at Shanghai Original Design Master Studio

Liu Jude (China)

Former deputy director of the Academy of Arts & Design of the Tsinghua University, and current professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Painting, Chairman of the Academic Committee and Director of Wu Guanzhong Art Research Center of the Tsinghua University; Council member of China Artists Association, Council member of Beijing Artists Association and expert enjoying special government allowances of the State Council.

Lu Xiaobo (China)

Professor, doctoral supervisor at Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University; convener of the Design Discipline Review Group of the State Council; director of Teaching Guidance Committee of Design Major of Colleges and Universities of Ministry of Education; deputy director of the China Artists Association.

Ma Defan (China)

Deputy Director of the Costume Committee of China Film Art Direction Academy (CFADA), artist of China Film Group, costume designer, and crossover artist. Ma served as a costume designer in multiple well-known film and television works. In 2008, Ma served as the costume designer of the promotional video for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games and the national publicity film. In 2016, Ma Defan won the Golden Dragon Award for Costume Design at the 8thAustralia's International Chinese Film Festival (ICFF). Representative costume designs for film and television works:White Deer Plain,Hawthorn Tree Forever,The Knot(Yun Shui Yao),Zhou Yu's Train.

Raphaël Isdant (France)

New media artist, President of Association Sino-Française pour l'Éducation de l'Art et de la Culture Contemporaine (ASFEACC), and Professor of the Écolenationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris (one of the world's three largest fine arts academies); winner of 2011 and 2018 PRIX LAVAL VIRTUAL.

Robert Blalack (USA)

The first-generation American film director of visual effects, CEO of Praxis Films, France, and Director of Star Wars IV; Robert Blalack won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Rossella Piergallini (Italy)

Professor and Board Member of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna (Italy's top art academy), and well-known artist; many of Rossella Piergallini's works have been collected in Italian museums and by private collections.

Shang Hui (China)

Director of the Art Theory Committee of the Chinese Artists Association, President, Chief Editor, and Professor of Editorship of the journalArt, Vice Director of the Art Committee of the National Urban Sculpture Construction Steering Committee, and Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Urban Sculpture Artists Association (CUSAA); in 2020, Shang was elected as the member of the 1stNational Major Theme Fine Arts Creation Art Committee of China Artists Association.

Shi Jiandu (China)

Executive Vice Chairman and Executive Member of China Film Art Direction Academy (CFADA), National First-class Director of China Film Group Corporation (CFGC), and designer of the trophy of China Huabiao Film Awards. Shi has directed more than a dozen films and acted as art director in more than a dozen films and TV dramas.

Sun Jingbo (China)

Famous painter, and Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA).

Tadanori Nagasawa (Japan)

President of Musashino Art University (MAU), Founder and Head of the Department of Design Informatics, MAU, and President of Tadanori Nagasawa & Associates.

Tang Hui (China)

Director, professor and doctoral supervisor at the Department of Mural of the Central Academy of Fine Arts; Deputy Director of the Mural Art Committee under China Artists Association.

Wang Honghai (China)

Vice President of China Film Art Direction Academy (CFADA), President of China Contemporary Art Creation Academy, Executive Director, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of China Film Art Direction Academy (CFADA), and former Vice President of Beijing Film Academy.

Zhao Ming (China)

Selection criteria

Originality: no plagiarism, no embezzlement, and no scope for "prior use".

Connotation: with lofty ideas; the selected works should convey healthy and positive information with profound and rich implications.

Innovation: unique perspectives, innovative techniques, appealing, high degree of transmission.

Description

1.No fees will be charged for the competition.

2.Entries must be completely original. In case of any intellectual property or copyright dispute, the Organizing Committee will disqualify the entries and the participants will bear the consequences.

3.All entries shall be healthy and shall not conflict with Chinese laws and regulations. Otherwise, the Organizing Committee shall have the right to disqualify the entries. In case of any adverse influence on the event, the participants shall bear the consequences.

4.The sponsors have the right to exhibit, publish (electronic copyright included) and collect selected works.

5.Participants shall ensure that the files work correctly and are free of any computer virus before submitting their electronic copies. Please specify special requirements, if any, in the description column. The Organizing Committee will not judge any infected electronic copy.

6.If any form of exhibition will be organized offline, the organizing committee will timely inform the authors of the selected works after evaluation.
